Did you know that your vehicle's engine oil plays a crucial role in its daily operation and performance? If you've ever wanted to learn how to check and evaluate it yourself, you're in the right place! At Crain Chevrolet, we will provide you with step-by-step instructions to check your engine oil independently. Our aim is to equip you with the knowledge to troubleshoot any issues if your car breaks down unexpectedly or to determine if it's time for an oil change.

  • Step 1: Allow at least 1 hour for your oil to cool down before attempting to check it safely.
  • Step 2: Find the motor oil dipstick handle, usually located on the left side of the engine. Unscrew the handle, remove the dipstick, and wipe off any excess oil with a paper towel.
  • Step 3: Reinsert the dipstick fully into the holder, wait for a minute, and then remove it again to check the oil level on the dipstick.
  • Step 4: The dipstick will have a line indicating the ideal oil level. Based on your reading, you'll know if your vehicle requires an oil change.

The condition of your battery plays a crucial role in your Chevy's performance and reliability. There are several indicators to assess your battery's health and various methods to extend its lifespan, ensuring optimal performance for an extended period. Begin exploring our recommendations below!

PRESERVE YOUR BATTERY

  • Tip 1: The alternator is responsible for charging your battery. Maintaining its health is vital for maximizing battery performance.
  • Tip 2: Allow your car to idle for at least 30 minutes weekly to enable the alternator to charge your battery effectively.
  • Tip 3: Opt for longer trips that keep your car running instead of frequent short trips, which require multiple engine starts and stops throughout the day.

CHECK YOUR BATTERY CONDITION

  • Sign 1: Locate the battery leads and inspect for corrosion or loose bolts, as they can affect power supply.
  • Sign 2: Examine your battery closely for any discoloration or cracks.
  • Sign 3: If you notice a foul smell inside the cabin while the engine is running, it may indicate battery issues.
