Doug DeMuro

Doug DeMuro got to check out the 2024 Corvette E-Ray and broke down what differentiates this car from its fully gas-powered siblings in his YouTube review. 

“This is a totally different type of Corvette from everyone that came before,” says DeMuro. 

He points out that the engine is exactly the same as the C8 Stingray with the same power train, apart from the lithium-ion battery pack in the front electric motor that drives the front wheels.

“Things can only be improved, and they are!” notes DeMuro. “The result is a total output of 655 horsepower and all-wheel drive for the first time ever on a Corvette.” 

DeMuro also explains that this isn’t a plug-in hybrid vehicle.

“It’s like a Prius. You just put in fuel, and then it charges the battery pack as you drive,” states DeMuro. “It feels really fast. I already think the regular C8 is fast, but this is clearly noticeably faster than the regular C8.”

DeMuro concludes his review by noting who this new car is for and why someone would be interested in it.

“This is a new Corvette for a new age. While you may associate hybrid with boring, this certainly isn’t that,” says DeMuro. “It does present an interesting option for people who want to cruiser that can smoke hypercars at a stoplight.”

Car and Driver

Drew Dorian with Car and Driver also reviewed the Corvette E-Ray and gave it a stunning 10/10 score! He praises it for its acceleration, all-wheel drive functionality, and stealth mode for those late-night drives home. 

“Since its launch, the C8 Corvette has been a staff favorite at the Car and Driver offices and a 10Best winner…” states Dorian. “The E-Ray joins the standard car on our 10Best list for 2024.” 

He notes that though there are only two seats, but the cargo space behind the engine and under the front hood provides practicality. Dorian also notes the vehicle’s handling.

“Cornering grip is nothing short of heroic; although the extra mass from the addition of the electric motor and battery shows up on the scales, it goes virtually unnoticed from behind the wheel on twisty roads,” says Dorian. 

In his verdict, he notes that the hybrid propulsion gives this Corvette two distinct and sensational personas.
