Basics About the 2022 Chevy Suburban
The Suburban nameplate is the longest-running series of vehicles in production. It started off as a station wagon but evolved into the largest, full-size SUV on the market. The Suburban is currently in its 12th generation, which debuted in 2021. It is based on the same GMT T1XX platform as the Chevy Silverado 1500.
New/Unique Features
Chevrolet made several changes to the Suburban for 2022 that included making some safety features standard. Lane-keeping assist and rear parking sensors are now standard and reverse automatic braking is now available on the higher-end models, Premier and High Country. A larger, 12.3-inch digital instrument panel was added to the LT trim and the multimedia system added Google technology.
Engine Specifications
Three engine options are available for the Suburban: a 5.3-liter, V8 with 355 horsepower; a 6.2-liter, V8 that comes with 420 horsepower; and a 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder, turbo-diesel version with 277 or 207 horsepower. The standard transmission is a 10-speed automatic.
Exterior Design
Drivers have plenty of options with six different trims available that include the base LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. The RST is the sport trim of the bunch with its Jet Black interior and Victory Red Stitching, and a Monochromatic Black grille with Black Ice accents.
The High Country offers drivers all-season tires for any driving conditions, while the Z71 comes with an available Four-Corner Air Ride Suspension to tackle any outdoor terrain.
Interior
The Suburban is famous for its best-in-class maximum cargo storage and first-in-class sliding center console. The second and third rows offer plenty of legroom so passengers are comfortable on long trips. Seating for up to nine is available on the LS trim with the optional front bench seat.
Safety Features
Chevy made six safety features standard in 2022 for all Suburban trims. These include Front Pedestrian Braking, Following Distance Indicator, IntelliBeam auto high beams, Forward Collision Alert, and Automatic Emergency Braking. This is in addition to the two safety features previously mentioned.
Infotainment System
The Infotainment 3 system allows drivers to use the Chevy MyLink app to connect a smartphone to the system through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in order to make hands-free calls, use apps on the phone, and listen to media. Navigation is available and includes turn-by-turn directions.
